text "Clang Quartet is the musical project of Scotty Irving (drummer for Geezer Lake, Eugene Chadbourne, Elvis X, and others). Live, Clang Quartet is predominantly an improvisational percussion/performance-art show, based metaphorically on the life of Jesus Christ. The recorded output features standard instruments like guitars, keyboards, and drums as well as Irving's own electrified hand saw/stapler/water bottle and cicadas mixed with sound collages of family tape recordings from his childhood."

CHRIS X posted by  paul

yep... chris x...
he finally passed his newest CD-R onto me... the thing is called 24... and it is made up of twenty-four short loop-based soundworks meant to be listened to in order... ... my first impression... ... ... this is incredible.

i tend to say that about his work (incredible incredible incredible)...
everytime i hear his newest creations, i am stunned by his taste and skill...
the loops on 24 are based off of many sounds that may be familiar (Vince Guaraldi's "It's Christamastime, Charlie Brown") and others that may take some investigation... ... and speaking of investigation... that is one facet of how chris goes about constructing these songs... ... they are very bold, creative, and explosive in a very laid-back way... a lot of the tracks are subdued familiar instrumental melodies that eventually get the most ferocious trip-hop beats interplayed into them --- and it works... ... so many times, i never see it coming... ... ... ... all of a sudden the song is equally racing forward and pacing around slowly... ... ... and the production never JUMPS out at you... it remains locked into a very serious ethic of progression and melodic structure... ...

i will end up listening to this thing over and over ... learning each time ... about the love of music ... ... ... this is a romantic work ... everything on this release is lovingly selected and tweaked... ... ... the sound quality is also lo-fi... that is... it is not perfect at all... but it just adds rawness to this beautiful work... ...

consider
would you please consider contacting us ... and asking for a copy... ... in the meantime we will be figuring out how much to charge for packaging it and shipping it to you... ... ... ...
this is by far one of the most incredible releases i have heard in a while... ... but if you want a copy, you'll have to ask... ...

WE LOVE MAIL --- and we will lovingly make the packaging for this thing... ... i am sure that you will be ingrossed and pleased... ...
